« My sensual chocolate »

Updated: Nov 23, 2018

Sensual, sexual, sensations… Yes, don’t worry, you did not make any mistakes, it is still a blog about chocolates.

The psychoactive ingredients of the chocolate enter the blood stream. The most prominent of these is theobromine, a caffeine-like molecule, which behaves as a mild stimulant. Chocolate also contains cannabinoids, which are the molecules responsible for the high experienced from smoking dope. However, the doses are tiny. However, it can provoke a certain form of pleasure, especially to women.

Chocolate, with its luxurious texture and pleasurable taste, can be easily associated to love and desire. Women do need chocolate, this has been demonstrated by the book « Why Women Need Chocolate » by Debra Waterhouse. Resistance is useless as women actually have a biological connection to chocolate. Chocolate is a mood enhancer and gives us energy, many consider it to be an aphrodisiac. The presence of endorphins and the fact that chocolate produces dopamine, serotonin, and cannabinoid receptors in our bodies makes it nature’s best tasting « love drug ».

« Mon chéri » is an Italian brand made since 1956 by the Ferrero group. Mon chéri chocolate is made with dark chocolate filled with a cherry flavour liqueur. The brand essentially targets women in its ads and that is why, many of them are very sensual and evocative. Indeed, once the woman in the ads take her first bite, a chocolate-induced euphoria follows, barely disguising the association of female sexual pleasure with the chocolate.

We saw in previous posts that Cadbury, the UK brand, had children & Millenials as main targets. With this ads, they tried to target women, promising them a sensual experience when eating their chocolate.

Chocolat Poulain is one of the oldest chocolate brands in France and has been created in 1848. It is known particularly for its bars of eating and cooking chocolate. The brand is often considered as traditional and classic. With this ads, the brand wanted to getting out of their « wise » reputation and show that eating their chocolate can go beyond the action of eating it. It can bring you something more than just « good dark chocolate ». It is an experience.

Recently, a faux-retro image of a woman with a chocolate cake has turned up on posters, mugs, and earring boxes with the caption: “Because chocolate can’t get you pregnant.”

Chocolate, as a sexual substitute, promises women a form of pleasure without any consequences. An underlying message of this advertising can be understood: Authentic female pleasure can be realised in the solitary act of eating chocolate.

.

For decades after this “food of the gods” was brought to Europe in the 1500s by Spanish explorers, chocolate was promoted in medical and scientific treatises as a stimulant, love potion, cure for impotence, and an aid to conception.

Yes, dark chocolate has benefits of antioxidants but it also can awaken your senses and put you in a romantic mood. Unwrapping the chocolate, the fusion of crunchy and melty, each feeling lead to the fact that you are enjoying and treating yourself. You feel ready to relax and it prepares you to be open and be receptive to pleasure.

It’s more than just chocolate. Just dreaming about dark chocolate before you even get your hands on it is where it all begins. This phase of anticipation leads to finally getting your hands on the sweetness you’ve been waiting for, it can be a full-blown experience.

We would be very curious to have your thoughts on it, tell us in the comments!
